Oklahoma Craft Distilleries — The Complete Guide | The Liquor Connoisseur®

Oklahoma has one of the most underrated craft distillery scenes in the country. Crystal and Roger have visited and reviewed multiple Oklahoma distilleries on The Liquor Connoisseur® — here's the complete guide to what's worth knowing, visiting, and buying.

Hochatown Distilling Co. — Broken Bow, Oklahoma

Located in the Ouachita Mountains of southeast Oklahoma near Broken Bow, Hochatown Distilling is one of the most complete craft distillery operations in the state. Crystal and Roger visited for a two-part series with owner Tommy, going deep on the production process and the full spirits lineup. Their Loyal & True Reserve Bourbon — tasted alongside spirits writer Fred Minnick — is the flagship expression worth seeking out.

Woodworks Distilling Co. — Oklahoma City

Woodworks is Oklahoma City's grain-to-glass distillery — producing everything from vodka to gin to whiskey on-site in OKC. Crystal and Roger reviewed their Barrel Aged Gin and found it to be one of the most compelling gin expressions in the Southwest. Their four-grain vodka is also worth trying. A must-visit for OKC spirits enthusiasts.

What Makes Oklahoma Craft Spirits Distinctive

Oklahoma's climate creates a significant temperature swing between summer and winter — which accelerates bourbon maturation more aggressively than Kentucky's more moderate climate. Oklahoma distilleries working with local grain sources are also experimenting with terroir-driven expressions that reflect the Southern Plains in ways no other region can replicate.

Oklahoma Distillery Laws Worth Knowing

Oklahoma passed significant craft spirits legislation in recent years allowing distillery tasting rooms, direct-to-consumer sales on premises, and expanded licensing for small producers. This has fueled a wave of new craft operations across the state — with Oklahoma City, Tulsa, and the Broken Bow/Hochatown area leading the growth.

Texas Craft Distilleries Worth the Day Trip

Crystal and Roger have also reviewed Texas craft spirits including Blackland Prairie Gold Bourbon (Fort Worth), Acre Golden Halo Barrel-Rested Vodka (Fort Worth), and Still Austin Cask Strength Bourbon (Austin). Both Oklahoma and Texas are building legitimate craft spirits identities that deserve national attention.
